Equipment

  • 1 Medium Pot (for boiling water)
  • 1 Mixing Bowl (for preparing dough)
  • 1 Spoon (for scooping filling)
  • 1 Slotted Spoon (for removing rice balls from water)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Glutinous Rice Flour for the dough
  • 3/4 cup Water adjust as needed for consistency
  • 1 cup Red Bean Paste smooth or chunky, as preferred
  • 1/4 cup Sugar optional, to sweeten the water or dough

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: Mix the glutinous rice flour with water in a bowl until a smooth, pliable dough forms.
  • Shape the Balls: Divide the dough into small portions, flatten each piece, and place a spoonful of red bean paste in the center. Seal the dough around the filling and roll into a ball.
  • Cook the Balls: Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently drop the rice balls in. Cook until they float to the surface, about 3–5 minutes.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Remove the rice balls with a slotted spoon and serve them warm, either plain or in sweetened water.

Notes

  • For added flavor, serve the rice balls in a lightly sweetened ginger syrup.
  • Adjust the dough's water content gradually to ensure the right consistency.
  • Red bean paste can be purchased pre-made or prepared at home.
